Description Bowel-FOB Test WHAT IS THE BOWEL-FOB TEST FOR? The Bowel-FOB Test is a self-test device that allows you to check the presence of occult blood in stool, in order to verify the existence of any gastro-intestinal lesions. WHAT IS FOB? The acronym FOB (Faecal Occult Blood) indicates an occult presence of blood in the stool that isn’t clearly visible to the naked eye. This can highlight different types of gastrointestinal disorders, such as polyps, ulcers, colitis, hemorrhoids, diverticula and colorectal cancer. The signs of these lesions are often silent in the first phases, so searching for occult blood in faeces is an important screening test, which allows to identify the presence of pathologies in the gastro-intestinal system at an early stage. WHO DOES USE THE BOWEL-FOB TEST? The Bowel FOB Test is particularly indicated for all people over 45 years old, both men and women, who are recommended to do it regularly at least once a year. HOW DOES THE BOWEL-FOB TEST WORK? The Bowel-FOB Test is an immunochromatographic test that, thanks to specific antibodies, is able to detect the presence of blood in a faeces sample. Using these specific monoclonal antibodies means that the Bowel-FOB Test does not require particular dietary restrictions before being carried out. It is advisable to repeat the test at least 3 times, on 3 different samples, as the loss of blood is often discontinuous and, therefore, sampling the stool more than once increases the sensitivity of the diagnostic system. WHEN SHOULD I DO THE BOWEL-FOB TEST? Verify the presence of occult blood in the stool is useful to check your health and make a proper prevention.
